in early buddhism, eternalism and annihilationism are two kinds of self-views (DN 1; Iti 49; SN 12.17; SN 44.10).

but in commentary buddhism, eternalism and annihilationism are two kinds of views related to life after death

while i didn't listen to any of the video, i imagine it is unlikely the monk is discussing Early Buddhism but, instead, the Commentary Doctrine of Buddhaghosa

Ajahn Brahmali is a wise monk indeed. His presentation of EBTs is very analytical and detailed.

I listened to this and learn a few things too.

No. Annihilation implies a self that is annihilated, per the sutta definitions already quoted. Regards :reading:

while you're alive this doesn't happen very often

otherwise you would be annihilated

hence it would be difficult to continue living

I mean, who could possibly think this

annihilation only makes sense in terms of the afterlife
