Are any well-known monasteries open for someone wanting to ordain?
Seems kind of a rough time for someone wanting to ordain. I write letters and emails to different monasteries but never hear back from them.

Guess it's the current situation of Covid19...maybe as a precaution they are in lockdown and also the fact that many Forest monasteries usually take a longer time to respond than the urban ones
It's good to know that there are still some people in the world who want to ordain even in the current situation and hopefully that makes me less crazy to the world
It would be a good idea to maybe use this topic as a resource for post Covid world where Ordination and Travel is possible, maybe each country may come up with stricter rules for visa and stay.
I am currently in Bangalore,India although looking for a Monastery which is conducive for Meditation not necessarily a Forest Monastery but it's definitely a plus.
@Samuel Vega which country and city are you from?

Some good places i have heard or been are as below
1) Mahabodhi Monastery Bangalore : There is a new second Monastery especially dedicated to Meditation but don't think you can Meditate alone as Meditation courses conducted by different Monks in a calender year happens it's called Mahabodhi Dhammadhuta Vihara but the other one is in Midst of the city which was established by the great Scholar Monk Acarya Buddharakhitta or affectionately called Bada Bhanteji here in 1956.

2) Na Uyana, India: This is a new Monastery established near Eluru near Vijayawada with Individual kutis for Monks but it's relatively new and just being built and solely for Monks , you may ask the head Monk there Bhante Vivekananda if you can Meditate there

3) Uruvela Forest Monastery: I have heard good things about this place from people who have visited this place which is around Bodhgaya where Buddha practiced "Dukkacharya" or extreme penance in the caves

4) Bhikkusadhana Sthal Nepal: This is a wonderful litle Monastery up a hill in the foothills of Himalayas here you can practice as long as you like with the approval by Bhikku Chandra Bodhi, he had been practicing Meditation in Goenkaji tradition before ordination in Myanmar and encourages sitting in long hours of Adhittana (strong determination) meditation for long hours infact he himself sometimes sits for 10 hours sittings.

Re: Are any well-known monasteries open for someone wanting to ordain?
I dont think Na Uyana India is a good place for him. Cos its still under construction phase. As per photos in internet I don't think he can cope with the situation there. Na Uyana in Sri Lanka might be a good place. But don't expect the facilities similar to the western country. But comparing to facilities in sri lanka ,its a very good place. If some one wanting similar facilities like western country then he or she will need to find a place in a western country.
