Amazon.com now has a service that if you log-in and purchase things through this sub-domain:
http://smile.amazon.com/
You can pick a charity and for whatever (qualified) purchases you make; they will contribute 0.5% to the charity of your choice. I looked up Buddhist Global Relief and it was listed as one of their approved charities, so I chose that one for my purchases.

Dana - suggested places to make donations
Re: Dana - suggested places to make donations
I had also mentioned that in my signature for my teacher, David. I came across something interesting though. I am not sure if I can find the link again. Ahhh, found it! It has to do with why we have to be careful of giving this way as it can lessen giving in other ways. When I thought about my own giving to an organization here in town where I live. I found that some of what was said in this article applied to my giving.(I buy grocery store cards that donate part of the profits to organizations).David N. Both of these websites promote only the most effective charities, to put it in vulgar terms: more bang for your buck.

Re: Dana - suggested places to make donations
Hi everyone,
This great organization in the NYC area is looking for a permanent home. They need funds to buy an old monastery to serve as a vihara. Anything you can give would help!

I have been there and have been involved (albeit in a limited capacity) side the beginning. The bhikkhu and bhikkhuni who are the leading teachers are amazing and they bring in monastics from all over.
To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

Re: Dana - suggested places to make donations
Thanks.
It is great if they secure the place. It is only one hour from NC by public transport.
It is interesting to see monks meditating with the cross and mother Mery in the back ground!
Please keep uninformed the progress of the fund raising.
