Re: Uposatha Observance Club
uposatha is to be kept the 8th, 14th and 15th of each lunar fortnight. not just on the moon phases themselves
this calendar looks reliable to me,
https://forestsangha.org/system/resourc ... sgZ7hXR_ys
but every time the full or new moon occurs on the 15th day (see bottom right corner of each month) you are to observe that day and the day before it. you only add 1-3 days of uposatha per month and you keep it closer to how it was to be kept in suttas
if anyone can tell me with a good amount of certainty which days are considered 'special observance days' according to https://suttacentral.net/sn10.5/en/sujato
or https://suttacentral.net/sa-2.46/en/bingenheimer i will greatly appreciate it!

Re: Uposatha Observance Club
I doubt anyone could do that with any degree of certainty. As far as I know, all that can be said with certainty is that:salayatananirodha wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 2:39 pm if anyone can tell me with a good amount of certainty which days are considered 'special observance days'
1. The Tipiṭaka tells us nothing about the meaning of pāṭihāriyapakkha.
2. The Saṃyutta and Aṅguttara commentaries give us two quite different accounts of it.
3. The sub-commentaries offer no resolution of the discrepancy in the commentaries' accounts.
4. In the Asian Theravadin cultural milieu knowledge of the significance of pāṭihāriyapakkha is not present even in folk memory, let alone in any living observance.
And more speculatively...
5. The fact that pāṭihāriyapakkha gets mentioned about forty times in the commentaries but only twice in the sub-commentaries might be taken as suggestive evidence that the decline of this observance took place some time between the composition of these two bodies of texts.

It turns out otherwise.
