Unlikely the lower realms are only reached with what is listed as the 10 unwholesome actions.

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

Hello WW,

Speaking as one woman to another, -you can do better than this! You already know its a negative direction to take, so find something else that interests you in a more wholesome way.

Maybe you could take up art or a craft in your spare time, or if you are unemployed, volunteer to help other people or animals at a charity organisation.

Porn is designed to be intense and to have far greater variety than you can experience in normal life. It is like a drug in that it causes tolerance to build up quickly. It takes more to get the same level of response. It is also surprisingly hollow. It fails to satisfy. It doesn't even do a good job of being a distraction from stress. It is more effective to learn to see through it than to feel bad about looking at it.

You already have the correct view and it's just a matter of applying various skillful means to tackle the addiction. If it's any comfort, do know that we're all "addicts" to various extents, although porn addiction falls more toward the lower end of the spectrum for it's at a coarser, grosser degree, than say, addiction to classical music, or philosophical thoughts. It'd take persistent, consistent time and effort to tackle those grosser clinging. Try to observe the Five Precepts, practice meditation, and apply the five strategies the Buddha taught in MN 20.

Thank you for your advice. Engaging in better activities could give some help but each time I miss intimacy I start to craving for porn. :(

In my opinion porn fits very well in a world full of nothing: it's pleasureful, it carries no consequences, it is free, convenient and easily available.

My experience with it, is that it dissipates our sexual energies into instant gratification. I was addicted to it when i was a teenager and it took me years to crawl up from that bottomless pit. As other stated, your interests become more and more refined with usage.

Nowadays, I made a promise to myself to stop having meaningless sexual experiences, both alone and with other persons: i'm close to my thirties and I want to focus on building my future, which hopefully includes a family.

Call me crazy, but we need a new thread about porn. It should be about what it is we really want when we look at it. The good qualities. Why? Because we know it is "wrong" and do it anyway. There has to be some serious benefit in there to outweigh the costs. Ignoring that side of the equation is why it is difficult to quit.

The fact that we do something doesn't mean that there is a benefit to it. There may be a payoff or a reason why we choose it, but that's different from there being a benefit. In the case of pornography, we have evolved to have sexual desires because that is what keeps the species going. Even under optimal conditions, nature doesn't care about your benefit in giving you a set of glands and hormones. Nature just wants you to take part in an impregnation-event, and doesn't care how much you suffer in the process.

Porn is what happens when people work out how to short-circuit that scenario. Instead of our hormones driving us into the fraught process of mate-selection and impregnation, they can be made to drive us into rapid repetitive discharge of meaningless sensations. Pleasurable, pointless, frequently laden with negative emotions like shame and guilt, and energy-sapping. We think there is a "benefit" because we have evolved to be jerked around by our hormones.
