why generate thought ?

Post by confusedlayman »

u know something after generating thought.. in satipattana u will reach a point where there is no need to generate thoughts ... what to do with that? it just tells ur reality is ur thoughts colouring ... so thoughts can be generated using volition and not take it seriously or aim is to not produce volitional thoughts in order to generate feeling?
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...

Volition is dukkha, heavy thing... you have to push in order to fabricate something... So I think its better to not torture yourself with that burden, let it go... If thoughts are ceassed - it's good. You have nothing to do with that, just be at peace and support brightness of the mind, trying to not falling into the fog. Clearness, brightness and peace of mind. Clearness support thoughtlessness. Brightness support joy. Peace support happiness.

But if you want to contemplate something, you can take bodily feelings, this "duck skin"/joy as object of contemplation. By contemplating its changing and oscillating nature it will become coarse, loosing its joy-quality, become neutral, so only ease and composure of happiness will remain... Then you can take happiness, and focus on its dukkha qualities. How is that dukkha of happiness? Happiness is a feeling, you can feel it. If you can feel it - it means it have pressure quality, pressure is dukkha, burden, information... So your mind let it go and goes beyond...

Vitakka and Vicara generate the speech.
When there is no Vitakka there will not be the speech.

First Mr confusedlayman, it is spelled satipatthana.

Second, when you stop generating thoughts , you have reached cessation of consciousness. That is the goalless goal. There is nothing left to do at that point. The Holy life is lived.

Third alino, I would say that those that reach the cessation of thoughts, probably are beyond suffering and their volition is not dukkha.

Fourth, SarathaW, vicarra and vittakka are factors of jhana. There is no talking in jhana. Hence vittaka and viccara do not generate speech.

Fifth, Buddha said no movie watching, right? Isn't that in the vinaya? No theater? You know it!
