Sinhalese

Post by Dorian »

I want to learn Sinhalese language. There is a book in my native language (actually, the only one for this language), but the problem is that it explains only written Sinhalese and, as I've understood, spoken Sinhalese is different. Where can I get some resources about spoken language?

Also if you have a Scribd account An Introduction to Spoken Sinhala by Professor W.S. Karunatillake is available. This is a very good book for learning the language.

What a surprise to find this post. I am also learning Sinhala, as i plan to go to Sri Lanka with some online dhamma friends to to ordain in half a year.

There's a very good book that i use to learn the language
Spoken Sinhala Made Simple by V. T. Fernando
https://www.amazon.com/Spoken-Sinhala-M ... 1980882924

I go through that book and add every new word to a flashcard app like Anki. Then on the side i am listening to some Sinhala Dhamma sermons as listening practice even though i don't understand much.

Here's a Nun that who's sermons i have heard from friends are very deep. Although i can't understand them yet, her pronunciation is very clear.

May I know your intent for learning Sinhala?
