It's okay to post in non-English languages, but to include the English translation with it. I got this from google translate:

Comment Review - How did the inconsistencies in the comments come about?

Commentary Review 9 - How did the inconsistencies in the comments come about?
In Science, Tripitaka, Tripitaka Master
Mahawa Gnanaloka Thero

What is the meaning? And how is it a Buddha discourse? In the above articles we have revealed why and why the present comment should be accepted. In spite of this, the heretics try to reiterate that the commentary is not a discourse of the Buddha, citing various flaws in the present commentaries. Meanwhile, Ven. Polwatte Buddhadatta Thero pointed out various inconsistencies in the commentaries and said that the commentary could not be a complicated sermon. He gives many details about it in his commentary book and says that the commentary is not a sermon. It is important for anyone who inquires about the Dhamma to pay attention to the various contradictions that arise in such commentaries. Therefore, in this article, we intend to look into the reasons for the inconsistencies in the current commentary books.

The Supreme Buddha maintained the Indigenous text and its interpretation by disciples such as Sariputra, Moggallayana, Mahakashyapa and Ananda. The Tripitaka with its textual interpretations was the subject of the first, second and third conferences. It is also a well known fact that the Pela Dhamma was memorized and maintained by generations of Bhanakas such as Dighabhanaka and Majjimabhanaka. But there is no mention of a generation of commentators who maintained the interpretation because each of the commentators also bore the interpretation of the Dhamma which they had memorized. But the text was memorized and the commentary was interpreted. There is very little difference between the two in maintaining the text by chanting from time to time. Therefore, there are very few differences between the text books available today.

There was no difference between the interpretations of the Dhammas of the Basic Objectives which were borne by each generation of commentators as judgments of their own. But it is not surprising that in the absence of books, there is a change in certain numerical facts, environmental information, etc. that do not help in Nirvana realization. It is a wonder that so many people, including Ven. Buddhadatta Thera, make such an unimportant point by saying that there are inconsistencies in the commentaries. The interpretations of objective doctrines do not differ between any two commentaries. Those who see such a difference will not be able to interpret the Dhamma due to pettiness.

It is timely to make a theological commentary on some of the inconsistencies in the commentaries presented by Ven. Buddhadatta from the very beginning of his commentary. One of the points he makes is the numerical error of the Brahmins who examined the features of the Bodhisattva (Commentary, pp. 03, 04). In one commentary it is stated that five Brahmins said that the Bodhisattvas would definitely attain enlightenment, while in another commentary it was stated that only the hairy Brahmin must have made a mistake in maintaining it. Such a late error can occur between generations and there is no impediment to its nirvana. If so, did not Budugos Adurupano, who edited both the Majjhima Nikaya commentary and the Anguttara commentary, see this difference? I saw. If so, why were they not corrected? It is a good example of their piety. Because a Buddha himself must come down again to correct such matters. It cannot be corrected by inquiring wisely about objective doctrines. So they did as they were told, without even showing their arrogance. It ensured that there was little or no change in the Dhamma in their service. But if there was any discrepancy between the consensus-objective divisions that were affecting the Sasana, he himself said that he had corrected them all in accordance with the Dharma-Vinaya, saying, We have outlined this in our fifth (5) article.

The wise commentators of the Tripitaka also said in this regard: The commentator on the Diganikaya said, "It must be assumed that there is a difference of opinion in the interpretations due to the opinion of the commentators." “Sasana Parihaniya Abhavatho, Sodhanupayabhava Paramatman is one of the topics in focus at Global Oneness. The commentator further elaborated. That is to say, ‘(if there is a mismatch between two commentaries) all those that do not match each other were written by Dr. (Budugos Adhurupana) in the same way as they came in the Sihala Attakalas, which were written according to the opinion of the respective commentators. Such a story is not a Sasana degeneration due to opposition and there is no way to correct it. If there is a contradiction between certain objective doctrines, it can only be corrected by the fourfold judgment of Sutta, Suttanuloma, Acharyavada and Attanomati. Inconsistencies in the storyline cannot be corrected. '

again, this topic appears to be about sectarian or political assertions without any in-depth reasoning supporting them.

the "commentators" are not a monolithic identity. sometimes they were correct, sometimes incorrect

proper discussion is to post examples of actual commentary and then discuss them

there appears to be little merit in being a copy & past dhamma librarian

the Buddha taught to use yoniso manasikara after hearing a teaching

the Buddha taught yoniso manasikara is like the "dawn" preceding the Noble Eightfold Path
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

සංවණ්‌ණනා සීහළදීපකෙන – වාක්‍යෙන එසා පන සඞ්‌ඛතත්‌තා;

Commentary Inquiry 04 - Did Buddhaghosa change the commentary?

It was explained in a previous article that there was a sermon of the Supreme Buddha and that interpretations were compiled by the Arahants who were close to him on that sermon. The same interpretation came to Sri Lanka from Mahindagamana and was later maintained in the Sihala language. Then AD. Dr. Buddhaghosa and other Dhammapalas who came to Sri Lanka around the 5th century translated these Sihala commentaries into the sacred Maghadi (Pali) language. In the compilation of such interpretations, various contemporary news items, judgments of the lecturers of the time, etc. were added to further confirm its meaning. Some allege that due to these additions, the commentators, including Ven.But a closer look at those interpretations reveals that the judgments presented do not transcend the text in any way. To get an accurate understanding of this, one must have a good understanding of the edits made by the commentators. Accordingly, this article seeks to examine the role played by those commentators in the interpretation.

The Samantha Pasadika Discipline is considered to be the first interpretation of the Tripitaka by the Buddha. The need to translate the meaning of the Sihala language into the language of the Holy Magadhi is stated in a stanza as follows.

SANVANANA SEEHALADIPAKENA - VAKKAYENA ESA PANA SANKHATATHATHA

Na Kinchi Aththan Abhisambhunathi - Bhikkhu Janasasa Yasma of Deepanthara.

Its meaning is as follows. "Somehow this commentary was written in the sentence of the Sihala island (in Sinhala) so that interpretation does not make any sense to the foreign monks." Accordingly, it was his intention to put the meaning of the Sihala language in the common Maghadi language so that it could be used by monks in foreign countries as well. With that in mind, Buddhaghosa translated the Hela Arthakatha, the Sinhala interpretation of the Tripitaka into Sinhala, into the Holy Magadhi language. In an emerging stanza, he said, 'Tatho cha bhasantharameva hitva'. It is also clear from the following stanza in the Sumadgalavilasini Deeganikayaparthakatha that the Buddha translated the commentary of Adurupano Hela into the Maghadi language.

Apanethlavana Tathohan, Seehalabhasan Manoraman Bhasan;

Thanthinayanuchchavikan, Aropentho Vigatadosan.

That is to say, 'Sinhala language, which is its language, is removed from that interpretation and errors such as inconsistent etymologies in that interpretation are added to the beautiful Shuddhamagadhi (Pali) language which is in line with the text.' Accordingly, this interpretation is not, as some heretics claim, a creation of Ven. Buddhaghosa. What he did was to remove the Sinhala translation of the then existing Hela commentary and replace it with the Pali language. But it is clear that there were some edits made in that translation.

Also, it is revealed in the stanzas of Samantha Pasadika that there were several main interpretations during the translation of the Hela Atuwa In his commentary on the Samantha Pasadika, the Buddha states that he compiled the necessary information for all of his commentaries.

Sanvannanan Thancha Samarabhantho - Tassa Mahaattakathan Sarirang;

Kathwa Mahapachchariyang Thathewa - Kurundinamadisu Vissuthasu.

Judges Attakathasu Vuttho - Yoyuttamatthan Aparichchajantho;

Tathopi Anthogadhatheravadan - Samvannanam Samma Samarabhissang.

That is to say, 'I, the initiator of that development, took the interpretation of the Great Interpretation as a body and made some judgment in the famous interpretations such as Mahapachchariya, Kurundi, etc. I will start. ' Thus it is revealed that at that time there was a main Hela interpretation called the Maha Attakathawa. It is clear from the commentary that it had a common meaning not only for the Vinaya Pitaka but for the entire Tripitaka. Since this great interpretation was the main interpretation of the Maha Viharayas, Budugoss Adurupano based his praise on it and says that he added appropriate meanings from other interpretations such as Mahapacchariya and Kurundi which existed at that time. According to the Vinaya commentary, the word 'Adi' here is a synopsis of the anthology of Andhra Pradesh and the interpretation of the anthology of Sadheka. Thus it is revealed that there were about five (05) books on the subject at that time.

Here the role of the Buddhaghosa lecturers and its background should be examined. By this time the Abhayagiri Vihara was established and its sectarian (anti-Theravada) ideologies such as Vaithulyavada were being taught. It is evident from some incidents in the commentaries that by this time there were differences of opinion among the Theravada Maha Viharas and sectarians such as Abhayagiri regarding certain disciplines of the Dhamma. In the presence of such different ideologies, the differences in interpretations were more pronounced than the differences, especially in the text. Both sides had similarly different interpretations of the text. Accordingly, the common people who use the Dhamma are confused about their interpretation. In such an environment, the Maha Viharayas who aspired for the perpetuation of the Dharmavinaya resorted to compiling Pali commentaries compiling pure Theravada interpretations. As a result, it is known that the Buddha Ghosh came to Sri Lanka.

In such a background, the role assigned to Ven. It can be seen that it was also his responsibility to refute the judgments that were spreading against Theravada and to confirm the correct Mahavihara Theravada judgment. It is not appropriate to translate the commentaries of the time (5) in the same way or to suppress each other in such a way as to illuminate Sakavada (pure Theravada). Accordingly, he realized that it would be more appropriate to reconcile all these, to suppress the paradoxes, and to make a new interpretation in such a way as to highlight the pure Theravada Mahavihara judgment. Accordingly, Samantha Pasadika for the Vinayapitaka, Sumadgalavilasiniya for the Diganikaya, etc. were compiled for the Tripitaka. Here, the commentary written under these separate names followed the Grantha Maha Attakatha. It is conceivable that there were separate treatises of the same names for each part of the Tripitaka in that great epic as well. We will talk about that in detail later.

Thus the Buddha compiled interpretations according to the responsibility entrusted to him, which included the judgments of various scriptures, contemporary theories and contemporary narratives for the purpose of contemplating heresy and enlightenment of the Theravada Maha Viharas. The ultimate goal of all these activities was to uphold the Theravada judgment. Therefore, in such an edition, there can be no transgression of the text. However, later lay clergymen who used the Tripitaka without the proper guidance of a teacher could not understand how the meanings of the text and the commentary matched each other. Instead of blaming the commentators, if they are humble enough to approach the gurus who know what they do not understand and cleanse themselves, it will be an improvement for them in this Sasana. Who associate with themselves,Others who listen to their own Dhamma will also be able to compile a correct Dhamma. Or the interpretations (confusions) made by those who interpret the Dhamma so ignorantly are misunderstood by the wise.

Those who criticize the commentaries compiled by Dr. Buddhaghosa should think a little about the serious work he has done here. At the time of writing, at least five (05) commentaries were kept in front of the pamphlets, which did not have the advanced technology and paper books, pencils, etc., as at present. Interpretation is a very serious matter. Even today, those who have used a pamphlet will understand the seriousness of this. It is certain that I read them all to see if there were any differences between the Hela commentaries of the temples at that time, as there are several editions of the Tripitaka even today. It is an important service of the Sasana intellectuals to make a single book for the convenience of the later users, using all the sources that existed at that time which did not have only one interpretation, re-emphasizing the complex discourse of the Supreme Buddha on the numerical Dharmavinaya judgment.

If it were necessary to use several books instead of one, there is no doubt that the monks would have been unable to pick and choose the correct judgment in later times when the Dharmavinaya had deteriorated. Commenting on all the judgments and making them into a single judgment, Budugos Adurupano, who mentions how each of their sources came to be in the textbooks, also left room for those who inquire further about those sources. Some commentators make various accusations because the commentary on the Hela commentary is so nominal that it is mentioned in the commentaries on the sources. We look forward to providing such allegations and appropriate answers in the future. Accordingly, it should be said that Dr. Buddhaghosa did not change the old interpretation in his interpretation beyond the text. The following article will explain more about his editions and their legitimacy.

King Parakramabahu II of Kingdom of Dambadeniya had written a Sinhala glossary (Sannaya) to Visuddhimagga within 1234 to 1269CE .
It is called Visuddhimárga-mahásannaya or Parákramabáhu-sannaya.
Ven. Nanamoli's Visuddhimagga Bibliography:
Sinhala: Visuddhimárga-mahásanne, ed. Ratanapala Medhankara et al, 2 vols., Kalutara, 1949. (Also called Parákramabáhu-sannaya. A Pali-Sinhala
paraphrase composed by King Pandita Parákramabáhu II in the 13th cent. CE.)
In this glossary the king had mentioned "the epilogue/colophon is written by a monk called Buddhamitta who was a student of Acariya Buddhagosa".
  • The king had mentioned the epilogue starting from "Vipula visuddha buddhina ..." an onwards as the addition of venerable Buddhamitta.
  • Furthermore the king had stated why the name of Acariya Buddhagosa is mentioned as "Buddhaghosoti garuhi gahita nama dheyyena" in this epilogue. The king had said this is because the student-monk can't mention the teacher-monk's name directly. (A convention practiced by Venerable Ananda towards his teacher Venerable Mahakassapa and said to be practiced by Sri Lankan forest monks even in the present day).
This has embarrassed modern critics who despise the Buddhaghosa Thera, saying that "he wished to meet the Metteyya Buddha and attain Arahantship there without even believing in Visuddhimagga he had written."

Those who don't criticize the commentaries compiled by ... Buddhaghosa should think a little about the serious extinction that occurred to Buddhism in India and very close in Ceylon. For the common man, Buddhism became close to indistinguishable from Hinduism. Since a 'self' was reborn in Hinduism compared to Buddhaghosa's twelve-fold emptiness, the Hindu teachings sounded much more logical to the common person that Buddhoghosa's idiosyncratic version of Buddhism. This said, the fact Buddhaghosa was able to dominate Buddhism shows Buddhism was already in deep fatal decline in India & Ceylon. Non-Dhamma is easily defeated & vanquished.

It's from the Vinaya (Vin. i. 92). When the Buddha first gave the bhikkhusangha permission to carry out bhikkhu ordinations it was the custom for the announcing ācariya in the ordination ceremony to address the preceptor by his personal name, which in the case of Mahākassapa would have been Pippali. But Ānanda, being a student of Mahākassapa, was too scrupulous to address his teacher in this way. Instead, he would always address him either as bhante or by his brahminical gotra name, Kassapa. Ānanda's scrupulosity eventually led to the following episode:
The allowance to make proclamations using the clan name

At one time someone wanted the full ordination with Venerable Mahākassapa. Mahākassapa sent a message to Venerable Ānanda: “Please come, Ānanda, and do the proclamation.” Ānanda thought, “Because I respect the elder so much, I’m unable to say his name.” They told the Buddha and he said,

“I allow you to do the proclamation using clan name, too.”
Rūpehi bhikkhave arūpā santatarā.
Arūpehi nirodho santataro ti.

“Bhikkhus, the formless is more peaceful than the form realms.
Cessation is more peaceful than the formless realms.”

Commentary Review 01 - What is the Commentary? Is it a creation of Ven. Buddhaghosa?

All the words of the Buddha preached by the real Samma Sambuddha are called the Tripitaka Dhamma. Its primary discourse is called the text or formula, and its interpretation is called commentary or interpretation. This interpretation is considered to be the language of the Buddha, as it was adapted from the discourse of the Supreme Buddha himself. The Tripitaka Dhamma with the same interpretations was brought to Sri Lanka during the Mahinda 's journey to bring Buddhism to Sri Lanka. Later that interpretation was maintained in Sinhala by the great Arahants of Lakdiva. ව. The Sihala interpretation was translated into the Maghadi (Pali) language by a great sage named Buddhaghosa who came to Sri Lanka around the 5th century. The Pali interpretations thus translated and prepared are still in use today. Thus, there are various theories among the lay clergy regarding the compilation of Pali interpretations by Dr. Buddhaghosa. Some say that Ven. Buddhaghosa included his views in the commentaries. Some are of the opinion that the word of the Buddha is distorted by the interpretations prepared by the Buddha Ghosh Thero. So what was the work done by the commentator Buddha Ghosh? What are the views of modern critics on that? The purpose of this series of articles is to examine what the Tripitaka can provide answers to the problems of both the clergy and the laity regarding interpretation. So what was the work done by the commentator Buddha Ghosh? What is the atthakatha?

Here is a stanza that gives an idea of the meaning of the opening stanzas of the Samantha Pasadika Vinaya Arthakatha written by Ven. Buddhaghosha.

Buddha Dhammo Vinayo Cha Wutto - Thatheva Nhatho in Yo Tassa Putte

Thesang Mathimachchajantha of Soya - Yasmapura Attakatha Akansu [1]

The simple meaning here is that 'although the Supreme Buddha preached a certain Dhamma and discipline in a certain way, that Dharma Vinaya was known in the same way by the same sons of the Supreme Buddha, such as Mahakashyapa. 'To go.

In this stanza, Budugos Adurupano reveals that the Hela commentary, which was the source of his interpretation, was a commentary on the teachings of the Buddha. Many Sutta discourses reveal that the Supreme Buddha preached very long sermons and that all of them are not included in the so-called Tripitaka Sutta. It is said that some of the Dharmashravanas give such a long discourse, leading the way to Sovan and creating sublime resources for the benefit of others. The long discourse of the Supreme Buddha, which was not included in the text, is called the Prakirnaka Dhamma Discourse. Sariputta and Mahakashyapa, who were close associates of the Supreme Buddha, came to know about this complex sermon in the same way. Therefore, those great Arahants sometimes preached the Dhamma to other monks, explaining the Dhamma in the same way as the Supreme Buddha.Examples of this are the Sachchavibhanga Sutta preached by Arahant Sariputta, the Desha Madhupindika by Mahakachchayana, the Maha Sutra by Mahakachchayana Bhaddekaratta, and the Desitha Sekha Sutta by Ananda Thera. The Supreme Buddha also endorsed those sermons and said that if he preached, he would preach in the same way.

This interpretation of the frequency of sermons was also discussed at the first Dhamma Sangayana conducted by Arahant Mahakashyapa, a close associate of the Supreme Buddha. Later the Bhanaka dynasty took over the parts of the Tripitaka and passed it on orally from generation to generation and the interpretation of each part was also passed down from generation to generation. Arahant Mahinda brought the Tripitaka Dhamma with these interpretations in bringing Buddhism to Sri Lanka. The entire Dhamma was in the Maghadi (Pali) language and was later translated into Sinhala by the Sinhala Arahants. It is clear from the above stanza that the interpretation thus maintained was the same interpretation maintained by the great Arahants such as Mahakashyapa in the context of the Supreme Buddha's eloquent sermon. It is said that the Sinhala Hera Arahants interpreted the Hela without abandoning their idea. The story goes on to say:

Athappakasanatthan Attakatha Aditho Vasisathehi - Panchahi Ya Sadgeetha Anusadgeetha Cha Pachchapi

Seehaladeepan Pana Abhatha Wasina Mahamahindena - Tapitha Seehalabhasaya Deepavasinamatthaya [2]

It means, 'The interpretation made for the purpose of interpretation was first brought together in the Sihaladeepa by five hundred Vasipraraptha Maharahathanas, and then the second and third musicals were re-assembled by the Arahants of Wasipraraptha Maha Mahinda. Then it was kept in the Sihala language for the benefit of the inhabitants of Sihaladeepa. The commentary on the Sihala language was called Hela Atuwawa and was written in books during the reign of King Walagamba during the compilation of the Tripitaka. There were three major commentaries on the Hela at that time. Namely, Maha Attakatha, Mahapacchariya Attakatha and Kurundi Attakatha. Dr. Buddhaghosa translated the commentary into the Maghadi language without abandoning the judgments to be taken in other interpretations based on the great commentary.

Since the interpretation is based on the discourse of the Supreme Buddha, it is revered by the Theravada as a discourse of the Buddha. Therefore, in the commentary books, the names of Bhagavata Abhyayakathan, Thanthipadan Aththi, Sabbasanyeva Aththo Kathitho, Tasma Sammasambuddhaneva Thinnan Pitakanan Aththavananakakopati are spoken . The Eightfold Path of the True Bhagavad Gita. ' [3]It is stated that. It means, 'There is no Tripitaka that has not been preached by the Blessed Ones. The meaning of all the sermons was preached. Therefore, it should be noted that the Supreme Buddha himself gave the praise of the meaning of the Tripitaka. The very meaningful sermon delivered by the Blessed Ones at that time is the meaning. ' The Indigenous Tripitaka text discourse by the Supreme Buddha was compiled and compiled by the great Arahants at the first Dhamma Sangayana with the addition of texts such as 'Evan Me Suthan' and is widely accepted as a sermon by the Supreme Buddha. The Supreme Buddha also gave a detailed sermon on the spot, which was compiled by the musicians at the first Dharma Sangayana as a commentary. Where the same interpretation occurs in many sutras when their repetitions (repetitions) are removed,When necessary, parables etc. were included according to the teachings of the Buddha and prepared as a commentary suitable for the entire Tripitaka. The interpretation thus prepared should be accepted as the word of the Buddha, as it was adapted from the sermon as well as the sermon.

Thus, the Arthakatha is not simply a creation of the Buddhagos Thera, but a compilation of the great Arahants who are descended from the Buddha's discourse. We will discuss that definition in a future article. Expect in the next article how the interpretation will be a Buddha Discourse, along with formulaic illustrations of the existence of a detailed discourse of the Supreme Buddha.

God knows why?
I have not read this in the suttas.
