Pathama mitta

Post by bhante dhamma »

Hi householders, a question for you regarding qualities of a Kalyan Mitra, is there a person in your life whom you think closely examplifies the four qualities of D 31 or AN 7.36 what are the ways in which you yourself try to bring these qualities to life? Indeed what other suttas can you think of that have kalayan mitra qualitas mentioned in them?

Householderʹs son, there are these four types who can be seen to be loyal friends: the friend who is a helper is one, the friend who is the same in happy and unhappy times is one, the friend who points out what is good for you is one, and the friend who is sympathetic is one. D 31

One should associate with a friend who possesses seven factors. What seven?

duddadaṃ dadāti, dukkaraṃ karoti, dukkhamaṃ khamati,

(1) He gives what is hard to give. (2) He does what is hard to do. (3) He patiently endures what is hard to endure.

guyhamassa āvi karoti, guyhamassa pariguhati, āpadāsu na jahati, khīṇena nātimaññati.

(4) He reveals his secrets to you. (5) He preserves your secrets. (6) He does not forsake you when you are in trouble. (7) He does not roughly despise you.
AN 7.36

No
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.
