I am sort of surprised that

1. the stupa at sarnath (deer park) where the dhamma was first taught,
2. the remains of Anathpindaka, jetvana monastry where Buddha spent most of his time
3. Kushinagara, where Buddha decided to attain his parinibbana

do not find mention in the list. I think eight is not enough.

Can someone confirm that Borobudur was a replica of the temple built on the same site?

Nice list, and interesting discussion topic. Personally I would love to see the “Global Vipassana Pagoda” in Mumbai taken off the list in favor of something older. It’s built next to an amusement park and the design is just a copy of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. When I arrived, I instantly felt that it was a replica, that it didn’t hold the weight or power of a real pilgrimage spot. Anyone agree? I’d say if your in Mumbai already it’s probably worth the trip, but otherwise, I can’t consider it worthy of going out of your way for. Definitely can’t compare to some of the other suggestions that have been offered!
