Way to Mute other users from certain posts to no derail them

Post by Aniccato »

I love this forum and the space it provides to learn and understand the dhamma. However there are a handful of people who are clearly only hear to debate and show that they know more than everyone and tend to ruin or derail many, if not all topics.

It would be nice to have a way to mute certain people from being able to comment on threads you create. Sort of like an option with a drop down box to prevent certain users from commenting on the thread.

That way the topic is not derailed by people who must prove they are smarter or know more dhamma and leaves the thread open to people who are actually interested in the topic and are interested in actually helping people learn the dhamma, not their idea of what the dhamma should be.

Thank you in advance.

Greetings,

You can filter them out of your own experience by adding them as a Foe in the User control panel.

However, it's not for anyone to decide that filtering for another, since as the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Metta,
Paul. :)

There are two things you might try. You could mark people as a "foe" by clicking in their name, which stops you seeing their posts (I think!)

Instead of preventing the person from commenting, specify in your first post what type of arguments or issues you don't want to discuss. The moderators should then keep discussion on track as per your request.

Rule 2i: Posts that are not mindful of the current topic, as defined in the initial post

If you feel as though this is what is happening, or if you feel these posts are in violation of the Terms of Service in some other way, please report the post.

But as Paul said, if this is just a matter of preference, the foe function should work just fine.
