ordination and new monk name

Hey guys,

If i ordain as monk and they give me new monk name and I dont like the name.. can I change it?

or we choose what name we want? is it possible not to have any monk name? or is it possible to call oourself as thatagata (one who is changing always) like that? or possible to remain nameless (remove layname and dont get monk name.. this might work well for practice non self)???

Don't ordain until you at least don't care about your dharma name.

I can't think of a preceptor in any tradition of Buddhism who would be likely to give anyone "Tathāgata" as a dharma name.

can I choose my own name ? I dont want name which translates as one is conqueror or like that it makes me lazy

I need dhamma name as "everchanging process"

If you are concerned with such trivial things, you aren't ready to ordain. They call it the discipline for a reason.

Good answers. Desire for a certain name or aversion for a certain name is just ridiculous conceit. "What's in a name?" Names are just arbitrary tags that are used for conventional and practical purposes. One is not a brahmana because one has a certain name. Purity of action, purity of mind, wisdom, etc., that's what makes one a brahmana.

So the layname is deleted from our life? for example when signing documents or writing book what name is used? what will happen to passport?

As Buddhist you are supposed to go beyond your likes and dislikes, am I right about that?
A name is not the ultimate reality is it? Nevertheless, I am concerned about the polyester-cotton robes that monks are wearing.
I hope one day the Sangha Council in Thailand will convent a meeting to decide and make a rule that pure cotton as the only material for robes of monks. At the same time they could also provide informations to lay people who provides alms for the monks that they don't give too much sugar loaded foods to monks making them diabetic. This is not a question on choice which Buddha forbid during alms rounds but more a question of ignorance that causes sufferings.
If anything to go by, Buddhism is an intelligent Ethical Psychological religion as such good informations on healthy foods should not be ignored. Buddha would have advised you to eat healthy foods to avoid suffering at later stage of your life.
To wear pure cotton robes that do not irritated the skin and cooling for the skin. (i.e. to avoid suffering not for other reasons).
