Re: Eat tasty food
Can the moderator please remove these photos . They are gross. You don't need them on this forum.
It's offensive to say the least. Being Buddhist you don't want to do things that are offensive.

Re: Eat tasty food
AN 7:46The perception of loathsomeness of food, O monks,
developed and frequently carried out, brings high re-
ward and blessing, has the Deathless as support and
goal. In what regard has this been said?
Whoever, O monks, often entertains the perception
of loathsomeness of food, his mind shrinks back from
gluttony, turns away from it, feels aversion, is not at-
tracted; and equanimity or disgust is present.
Just as, O monks, a cock’s feather or a piece of
bowstring, thrown into the fire, shrinks up, twists,
rolls itself up, does not stretch out again: just so in one
who often entertains the perception of loathsomeness
of food, the mind shrinks back from gluttony, turns
away from it, feels aversion, is not attracted; and
equanimity or disgust is present.
Eyes downcast, not footloose,
senses guarded, with protected mind,
not oozing — not burning — with lust,
wander alone
like a rhinoceros.
Sutta Nipāta 1.3 - Khaggavisana Sutta
See, Ānanda! All those conditioned phenomena have passed, ceased, and perished. So impermanent are conditions, so unstable are conditions, so unreliable are conditions. This is quite enough for you to become disillusioned, dispassionate, and freed regarding all conditions.

The Buddha repeats "O monks" three times in your sutta quote, so the teaching was clearly being given to men who were ordained and not to lay people.
Why, therefore, are you posting a sutta for monks, as well as huge gross photos of mouths containing food, on a forum which has a majority of lay practitioners? I am completely baffled, especially as we all need to eat a reasonable amount of food in order to survive.
Unless you want us all to look like this, of course....

https://suttacentral.net/mn143/en/sujato“For a long time I have paid homage to the Buddha and the esteemed mendicants. Yet I have never before heard such a Dhamma talk.”
“Householder, it does not occur to us to teach such a Dhamma talk to white-clothed laypeople. Rather, we teach like this to those gone forth.”
“Well then, Master Sāriputta, let it occur to you to teach such a Dhamma talk to white-clothed laypeople as well! There are gentlemen with little dust in their eyes. They’re in decline because they haven’t heard the teaching. There will be those who understand the teaching!”

.
Sutta MN143 is about a dying man, its not about loathsomeness of food.

I will ask the moderation to put the links instead of the images.
It may help some people.

Re: Eat tasty food
why not? how else can equanimity be developed?
possibly an easier 1st step is to reflect on whether or not a food is healthy. even non-Buddhists do this
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

I’m glad I got to see them before they were taken off. It did get me thinking about how that disgusting thing chewed to a goo and that beautiful and delicious-looking shawerma on your plate are one and the same thing.rhinoceroshorn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:42 pmI will ask the moderation to put the links instead of the images.

I must agree…Aloka wrote:The Buddha repeats "O monks" three times in your sutta quote, so the teaching was clearly … not to laypeople.
Re: Eat tasty food
Eating tasty food is fine. Craving tasty food is not so good. It is in itself unpleasant, and can lead to unpleasant consequences. If there is craving, then one might want to do something about it.confusedlayman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 10:07 pm is it Allowed for lay man? Food taste is so addicting like pizza and shawarma mmmmm
