People you have on your ignore list should not trigger notifications
People you have on your ignore list should not trigger notifications
When people I have on my ignore list quote my comment, it triggers a notification. Any way to stop this from happening?
Re: People you have on your ignore list should not trigger notifications
Take them off your ignore list and the problem disappears...

Clever
“Knowing that this body is just like foam,
understanding it has the nature of a mirage,
cutting off Māra’s flower-tipped arrows,
one should go beyond the King of Death’s sight.”

I would still get the notification if I take them off the list, so how does the problem disappear?

I think he was trying to say something along the lines of don’t have the aversion to block them and the problem disappears. SDC can correct me if I’m wrong though.

1. This has nothing to do with a technical request.
2. Aversion doesn't mean ignoring people or removing something from your awareness. Aversion means hatred, as in having bad or cruel thoughts towards someone. There are plenty of suttas where the Buddha tells people, or demonstrates himself, to leave bad people behind, to leave noisy environments behind, he leaves crowded monestaries, tells foolish annoying people to stop following him around, etc.. this isn't "Aversion".

Stop trying to ignore them and you won't care when they quote you.

I could easily make you want to ignore me, are you sure you could live up to those words? In fact I bet if I wanted to, I could make you resort to banning me by annoying you so much. Luckily I have no desire to become a worse person by stooping as low as others.
And fortunately, the Buddha wasn't masochistic enough to preach that one should accept bad people.

First of all, I enjoy talking to you and enjoy what you bring to the forum.coconut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:18 amI could easily make you want to ignore me, are you sure you could live up to those words? Second of all, I'm not a moderator, so I don't have the capability to ban anyone.
Third of all, when I was a moderator, I fielded the ire of multiple members at any given moment, some of those members were legendary in their own time, and although it was not enjoyable, I was a specialist when it came it came to keeping my composure. Perhaps if I ever rejoin the staff you can put a chip on your shoulder and try to rattle me but until then I'd rather preserve our existing lines of beneficial communication.
You asked how to deal with this issue and I attempted to make some light of it, hoping that my suggestion would help. I thought it was clearly tongue and cheek and did not expect you would take offense. I'll respect the boundary next time.

Well, if I were to do it, I'd make another account so you wouldn't know it's me, and therefore you wouldn't think all those positive things about me. You know how like Mara constantly tries to change form to deceive others, and then disappears once people discover it's him.SDC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:35 amFirst of all, I enjoy talking to you and enjoy what you bring to the forum.coconut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:18 amI could easily make you want to ignore me, are you sure you could live up to those words? I appreciate the nice comments, I was not offended by your words, I was just giving a realistic reply, and I know it's probably not even possible to enable the feature anyway. I also consider you a knowledgeable respectable person, and wouldn't enjoy annoying you anyway. I wouldn't enjoy annoying a bad person either in order to teach them a lesson, I'm not the arbitrator of justice and it wouldn't teach them anything anyways, if that makes any difference, and I'm not a sadist who enjoys schadenfreude. I just have no patience for masochists and sadists though, which there are many in communities like these.
Anyways, sorry if I put you on the defensive. (not being sarcastic if it may come off like that, btw)

Sniffing out aliases was my other specialty, so don't do that.coconut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:45 am Well, if I were to do it, I'd make another account so you wouldn't know it's me, and therefore you wouldn't think all those positive things about me. All good, coconut. I didn't mean to be defensive. I look forward to our next exchange.

It's obviously a flaw that a user having opted to ignore another is to be notified of their activity.

Under rule 2j of TOS, you can ask people not to engage with you in threads. Obviously that also means not engaging with them.
Buddha save me from new-agers!

Thank you for this, although that rule appears to only apply to "current topic". Not across the board.Spiny Norman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 8:38 amUnder rule 2j of TOS, you can ask people not to engage with you in threads. Obviously that also means not engaging with them.
