Rites and rituals and some contradiction

Post by confusedlayman »

1) in vimutimagga rites and rituals is given as "by doing this virtue may I be born in heaven or like that"

the above is eradicated at 1st stage

also craving for existence is eradicated at 4th stage

so what's the difference? is there any contradiction?

2) in vimutimagga, perception of permanence is replaced by perception of impermanence, perception of self replaced by perception of non self when someone attains 1st stage but when everything is perceived by impermanence then dont the practitioner dwells in. signless? if he dwells in signless how can he do daily activity?
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

Wouldn't this be contradict with Sankharupapatti Sutta of Majjhima Nikaya?

Quote [in vimutimagga rites and rituals is given as"by doing this virtue may I be born in heaven or like that"]

http://www.suttas.com/mn-120-sankharupa ... ation.html

It seems Vimuttimagga's rite and rituals definition is different from suttas.
