3 short and really important notes about 'mindfulness meditation'
These are 3 important things I learned after decades of trying to decipher confusing interpretations and translations of 'mindfulness' meditation.
There's only a few minutes worth of reading words here, but unless you've discovered some of the same things in your practice, it may take some time for it to sink in. Chew slowly and savor
Satipaṭṭhāna: "mindfulness" is continuous, moment to moment, to be done all the time.

Sati-'paṭṭhāna ("mindfulness meditation"): There's no need to translate the literal 'seeing' in there as 'contemplation'

B. Bodhi's translation of satipaṭṭhāna formula: "contemplating the body in the body": what does that even mean?

Re: 3 short and really important notes about 'mindfulness meditation'
Try to look into this video about Satipatthana by Late Bhante Punnaji. Maybe it may help your understanding more.
Kaya = physical body
Vedana= feeling
Citta = mood (citta sankhara = vedana & sanna)
Dhamma = all experience that perceive/cognize/thinking by mind (mano) that come through 5 senses. Can also include dhamma from learning the sutta (concept)
So purify conduct is important to tranquilize your physical body (breathing, internal organ etc). Then you can start purify your mind from feeling, citta and dhamma.
Eventually you know when you intepret some experience with your mind, mood change, feeling change and physical body change (bad experience interpretation - dukkha, good experience interpration - sukha, neither good or bad - upekkha).
So basically just see first as you said, then know, then knowledge, and freedom. Doing this correctly should bring samadhi(jhana) and sati.
Like you said it needs to be done 24 hours, when you live your daily life. The best lifestyle is a lifestyle with free from senses. (No work, no family, no responsibiliy or monk life).
If you can't have this kind of lifestyle, then keep precepts and from time to time try to relax the tension on body and mind. Hence one can always be happy throughout the day.

My understanding is
The only difference between sitting on a cushion with eyes closed meditating
and daily life
is that you have your eyes closed. Awareness should be a constant.
Be happy
