Happy to say that the Washington Buddhist Vihara, the oldest Theravadan temple in the New World, celebrated Vesak today in person for the first time since 2018. 2019 they didn't celebrate it after the Easter Sunday church bombing in Sri Lanka, and the last couple of years due to the pandemic.
The real date for Vesak is not until May 16 this year, but the temples in the area stagger their observances throughout the month of May so the monks can visit the other temples on their observances and receive Vesak dana several times instead of just once.
