Difference between right samadhi vs wrong

Post by confusedlayman »

Wrong concentration may be similar to great experience or like experience but it will not make mind malleable, sharp and fast... (some people dream of 1st jhana bliss)

Right concentration is concious start due to will, makes mind malleable and it is not dream as meditator is aware and concious (not dream instead actual experience)

I will update on this further
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...

From this strict psychological standpoint samadhi can be present in unwholesome states of consciousness as well as in wholesome an neutral states. In its unwholesome forms it is called "wrong concentration" (micchasamadhi), In its wholesome forms "right concentration" (sammasamadhi).

So, there can be right samadhi and wrong samadhi. Wrong samadhi is where the mind enters calm and there's no awareness at all. One could sit for two hours or even all day but the mind doesn't know where it's been or what's happened. It doesn't know anything. There is calm, but that's all. It's like a well-sharpened knife which we don't bother to put to any use. This is a deluded type of calm, because there is not much self-awareness. The meditator may think he has reached the ultimate already, so he doesn't bother to look for anything else. Samadhi can be an enemy at this level. Wisdom cannot arise because there is no awareness of right and wrong.

Generally, the wrong view leads to the wrong Samadhi.
Micchatta Sutta of the Anguttara Nikaya (collection of Buddha’s discourses arranged according to numerical content), shows how Wrong View (micca ditthi) leads one to failure rather than success on the path of liberation;

Wrong view(micca ditthi) leads to wrong intention (micca sankappa)
Wrong intention (micca sankappa) leads to wrong speech (micca vaca)
Wrong speech (micca vaca) leads to wrong action (micca kammanta)
Wrong action (micca kammanta) leads to wrong livelihood (micca ajiva)
Wrong livelihood (micca ajiva) leads to wrong effort (micca vayama)
Wrong effort (micca vayama)leads to wrong mindfulness (micca sati)
Wrong mindfulness (micca sati) leads to wrong concentration (micca samadhi)
Wrong concentration (micca samadhi) leads to wrong knowledge (micca nana)
Wrong knowledge (micca nana) leads to wrong release (micca vimutti) (5)
