NO. All weapons on Planet Earth should have been thrown in a big pit in disgust after we nuked Japan TWICE.
KeepCalm but follow the path (Noble Eightfold Path) with a sense of extreme urgency unless you are at a point where you need to drop that then KeepCalm again. Oh and don't believe everything you read. Don't disbelieve it either. Practice like it is a Science experiment and asses your results regularly and compare notes with your peers...share your results.

I stopped after almost being in a fight
In An 5,177 Vanija sutta 5 types of business is advised for any body where the first is selling or buying weapons ,
As such if one buys or sells a knife for utility in kitchen or agriculture it could be excused but not for intention of hurting or harming life , But I cannot understand the need of a gun even as a sport .
Guns are never meant as a tool for sport . Even in games guns are hundled by army personnel or people of similar styles

Are you a Trump fan?

I'm more of a Tulsi fan. And to bring this back to topic . . . she provides some evidence that it's possible to be proficient in guns, handle guns (she's a LTC in the US Army) and still be non-violent (she's anti-war and vegetarian).

I saw her in a photo with someone inside of a Vishnu Temple I used to frequent. She has a lot of connections in the Eastern Aspect of the Spirituality of our time. If you ever get the chance to talk to her, you will find she cares a lot about the world and is a decent person, as you already know...
“The wisdom of the buddhas, the supreme humans,
Is superior and beautiful,
Unique in all these worlds,
And a magnificent form that is worthy of homage.
