"Arising and Passing” is not just noting the arising and passing.

According to Patisambhidamagga, “the contemplation of Udaya vaya (arising and passing)” is not just noting the arising and passing.

Udaya is to be understood in terms of Paccayasamudaya (arising due to arising of causes) and the Nibbattilakkhana (Characteristic of arising) both.
There are 4 ways for Paccayasamudaya and 1 way for Nibbattilakkhana.

Vaya is to be understood in terms of Paccayanirodha (vanishing due to vanishing of causes) and the Vipariṇāmalakkhana (Characteristic of vanishing) both.
There are 4 ways for Paccayanirodha and 1 way for Vipariṇāmalakkhana.

So 5 ways for Udaya and 5 ways for Vaya.

In order to see Udaya-vaya of Pancakkhanda, there are 50 ways to be concerned. (5*5*2 = 50)

eg:
Udaya of Rupa:

Avijjā samudayā rupa samudayo (arising of rupa by arising of Ignorance)
Tanhā samudayā rupa samudayo (arising of rupa by arising of Craving)
Kamma samudayā rupa samudayo (arising of rupa by arising of Kamma)
Ahāra samudayā rupa samudayo (arising of rupa by arising of Nutriment)
Nibbatti lakkhanā (the characteristic of arising)

Vaya of Rupa is also taken in the same way but replacing “Samudaya” with “Nirodha” and “Nibbatti” with “Vipariṇāma”.

For Vedana, Sanna and Sankhara, the 4th point becomes “Phassa”.

For Vinnana, the 4th point becomes “Namrupa”.

The causes Avijja, Tanha and Upadana are considered the main causes of Rupa, like the Mother.

Kamma is considered the second main cause of Rupa, like the Father.

Ahara is considered the supporting cause of Rupa like the Nanny.

Additionally Citta and Utu also are the causes of Rupa.

Hello Eko Care. The Patisambhidamagga is not Abhidhamma. Please explain why the Patisambhidamagga is Classical Theravada? Thank you

What is written in this section in the Patisambhidamagga is consistent with the Suttas (SN 22.5, AN 4.41, SN 12.20 & SN 22.21). In the Suttas, udaya-vaya (arising and passing) is not noting the arising and passing; unless the Satipatthana Sutta is interpreted like this.

Please show where the Abhidhamma & Classical Theravada explain udaya-vaya (arising and passing) as Paccayasamudaya & Paccayanirodha? Thank you

Of course Patisambhidhimagga is a book of the Sutta Pitaka , not the Abhidhamma.
And Classical Theravada includes all the Tipitaka - not only Abhidhamma.
