Hello
I have been into Buddha's teachings since past several years and have recently been inspired to start a youtube & instagram channel to spread the dhamma in whatever little way possible.
I am from India and part of the reason for starting of this channel is the pain/frustration that I felt seeing that the land where the Buddha got enlightened, there only people dont practise it.
But I get confused sometimes. how to reach the lay audience of today who are engrossed in such material things. will they be interested in learnings from discourses, or should I focus only on real life takeaways - would long videos of say 10-15 mns work or should I focus on 1 minute shorts/reels.
I am not sharing youtube channel link as it may be construed as an advertisement. Buddha's teachings need to reach out to more and more people. Any genuine advice/guidance/tip will be most appreciated.

I would do things like explaining different aspects of the Dhamma, or in another episode the history of Buddhism in India and beyond. Who the Buddha was debating with when alive, how Buddhism and Hinduism share things in common and where they disagree (same for Jainism), meditation and so on. As for how long, I’d say 30 minutes to an hour. You could also try to get interviews with monks and nuns when you get confident enough. Decide as well if you are going to focus just on Theravada or Mahayana too, early schools etc.abhinav1 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:15 pm Hello

Check out the successful Youtube and Instagram channels, and study them to find out what makes them successful and how they can be copied.abhinav1 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:15 pm Hello

The shorter, the better. People have low attention spans. They'll watch several one minute videos rather than a 20 minute video. It's the same with forums. People will read several short posts and skip the posts with a wall of text.abhinav1 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:15 pm But I get confused sometimes. how to reach the lay audience of today who are engrossed in such material things. will they be interested in learnings from discourses, or should I focus only on real life takeaways - would long videos of say 10-15 mns work or should I focus on 1 minute shorts/reels.
I like Nuseir (Nas Daily). He has interesting videos and almost all of them are only one minute long. He has surpassed 7 billion total views.

Share it in a way that you bring people closer to Enlightenment at every moment, and you as well, in the Bodhisattva Spirit.

Talk about what suttas youve read and practiced and how they've helped you this is very inspiring. I told a friend I felt rapture after chanting namo Tassa bhagavato arahato sammasambudhassa for 20 minutes and he was genuinely interested. Sadhu.
Take care of mindfulness and mindfulness will take care of you.

thanks @DNS, your reference to NAS daily brought a smile on my face:) I and my son we love watching NAS daily and simply appreciate the wonderful information he packs in a minute, which is full of positiity and upliftment. I totally agree, attention spans are reducing and we can reach wider audience by way of shorts - maybe it can be a mix of shorts & long videos (upto 10 -15 mns) - people can introduce to channel via shorts, and if they want to deepdive, they can check longer videos.DNS wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 9:54 pmThe shorter, the better. The problem is that I dont have an video editing budget - so dont have exciitng thumnails, images etc. - hopefully will have in future so make videos atleast 10% of those that NASDaily makes:)
Thanks again!
