Indian Buddhist Scholar Publishes Book on Relations in Abhidhamma Philosophy

Indian Buddhist scholar Prof. Bimalendra Kumar has released a revised and updated edition of his book titled Relations in Abhidhamma Philosophy. The author describes the book as based on the topic of dependent co-arising, and containing seven chapters of vivid discussion about the theory of relations.

The book was launched on 17 February at the 15th Nalanda Dialogue, which was held on the theme of Yoga, Science and Technology, in the presence of distinguished scholars, scientists, and yogic practitioners, including Prof. Rajendra Prasad, vice-chancellor of Magadh University, Gaya; Dr. Bal Mukund Pandey, secretary-general of Akhil Bhartiya Itihas Sankalana Yojana; and Prof. Abha Singh, pro-vice chancellor of B. N. Mandal University, Madhepura, Bihar. The event was organized by the Department of Philosophy of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara in Bihar.

Analysis and Synthesis

Post by Ceisiwr »

It has been said by the Theras that the methodology of the Blessed One was that of analysis and synthesis. Analysis breaks what seems like a whole being or self into parts, the dhammas, whilst synthesis shows how these ultimate realities are conditionally related to each other. Analysis abolishes atta and substance theories, whilst synthesis abolishes the delusion of permanence in what is impermanent. The Dhammasaṅgaṇī deals with analysis in terms of the dhammas, whilst the Paṭṭhāna is focused upon synthesis. The link below is a good resource for those who wish to learn about the Paṭṭhāna, the Abhidhamma text on conditional relations.

This is the first of ten videos, about two hours each, from Bhikkhu Bodhi given in 2018:

Good and evil have no fixed form. It's as easy to turn from doing bad to doing good as it is to flip over the hand from the back to the palm. It's simply up to us to do it. Master Hsuan Hua.

This is a rather nice collection of videos on an introductory course to the Abhidhamma

One of some relatively new books on Abhidhamma.com
February 2019:

Aggācāra Dhamma Project (Myanmar) has finished the translation and editing of Sayadaw Dr. Nanadamalabhivamsa's latest book:
The Analytical Study of Dependent Origination (Paṭicca-samuppāda)
in the Perspective of Conditional Relations (Paṭṭhāna)

I was looking for the answer on how Patthāna can explain certain important points in DO via a more summarised way...now I found it. Thank you for sharing.

Will read this first before jumping into the Patthāna Mahapakarana...

Even it is not perfectly traditional, I wonder whether you would consider adding this https://highermindart.info/sdm_downloads/paramattha/ and perhaps this https://highermindart.info/sdm_download ... of-dhamma/ to the list?
