You have the freedom to defend yourself from harm or trespass.
Now was it the sensation of the ant climbing on you that provoked fear or was it a fire ant that can cause unpleasantness. If you were aware of the situation and chose to calmly remove the ant and it’s killed accidentally then this is not destructive. If there was no danger and one loses the balance of mind and blindly lashes and kills then this is destructive killing.
If there was danger and one consciously smacks the ant then this is self defence and not destructive.
he was climbing up my leg and i kinda shook him off but almost stepped on him. i was aware of the situation

Good. I don't kill insects. I just shoosh them away.

Sleep on the floor and don't have children ;)

Such extremist view. This is not the middle way.

Monks sleep on the floor and don't have children (at least, not after ordaining). Are they extreme?

Precepts are merely for developing samadhi.
You don’t “get into” sotapanna, you pass through these wisdoms when ripe to do so. These wisdoms prevent one(through liberation) from carrying fear in the mind capable of generating thought formations of the lower planes. The thought I will catch a fish to feed my family is not of the lower planes.
No insight in your case. First insight of DO is precepts, hence one maintain perfect precepts to proceed further.

If you think you have psychic power, please check with Yama.

Ask him whether you are in lower plane list or not. Hopefully he said yes, then you know you have delusional insight. 😅

I was referring to a situation where a layman had bedbugs or child had lice, it’s extremism to abandon your bed and sleep on the floor or to abandon your daughter/son.
Ceisiwr’s answer is extremism and not the middle way.

You might have to kill the insects if they are threatening your health.

Anyways, I think there is some misunderstanding as to what the middle way is.

I don't think monkhood is extreme - it is just seeing clearly.

Starving yourself is an extreme way.

Have you checked the heaven lately? Wait you can’t because one needs to have good morality to know heavens.

Actually all religions teach heaven. So your statement is not correct as well.

Not all beings in heaven identify as a buddhist.

Btw, Wrong view and bad acts (such as killing) still leads to lower realms whether you identify as buddhist or not. 😅

His statement is still correct, regardless of what other religions teach.

A small kill will land you in lower realm.

Btw, Have you seen any buddhist leads to heaven? Most buddhists nowadays gone to lower realms. Do you know that?
