I am not really sure about how 'y' is pronounced.
I hear in some cases that an 'i' sound is pronounced before it. E.g. in "vākya" instead of saying v-ā-k-j-a it is said as v-ā-k-i-j-a. So insted of just saying 'j' as it is in e.g. yes. In a lot of cases a plus i, like it is pronounced in the word "ignore" as the first letter, is said as well, before the 'y' sound.
Do you know whether this 'i' is really needed before the 'y' or it is pronounced only because some cannot just pronounce the 'y' sound without the support of an additional vowel.
In my the native language we use the 'y' sound regularly so I do not really need any supporting vowel to pronounce it. But do I still need to add the 'i' before it to follow the right pronunciation?
Correct pronunciation of 'y'
Re: Correct pronunciation of 'y'
In UK English at least, the letter "y" is pronounced as a very fast slurred "ee" which precedes the vowel, so really it's just a matter of how fast it is said. But no, inpatta.1999 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 7:10 pm I am not really sure about how 'y' is pronounced.

Pali don't insert another vowel. Just the "y".

Thanks for clarifying.
