Mansikara leads to Sati (attention leads to mindfulness.
The way I understand the first limb of Satipathana (Kayanupassana or contemplation of the body) is the development of attention.
Can you develop Sati sitting meditation on the age of the balcony of a very tall building?

Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
A decade ago, I had the extreme good fortune to be in the Venerable's audience for six months. The most lucid and practical teachings I've ever heard or read. It may have helped that I had a little knowledge of the Abhidhamma and had found it very helpful as a beginning yogi. In one of his more recent videos, someone in the audience begins to ask about "the Western concept of..." and LH repeats "Western concept" and smiles, then begins to speak of the responsibility of cleaning the bathroom.
"Therefore Ananda, live with yourself as an island, yourself as a refuge, there is no other Refuge. With the Teaching as an island, the Teaching as a refuge, there is no other Refuge." (DN 16)
Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
Seven factors of enlightenment start with the Noble Eightfold path and end with the Noble Eightfold Path even though it is not listed as such.
It is important to understand the sequence of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment.

If you met him about 10 years back you are very fortunate indeed.zamis wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 9:54 pm A decade ago, I had the extreme good fortune to be in the Venerable's audience for six months. I found one of his videos only about two years back and I could not find any materials or whereabouts of his until I saw this thread. Then I found his video series. I intend to go and see him if I have a chance. His hermitage is only about 20km from the air port and 10km from colombo.

Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
Metta should be practiced not towards other people or a particular persons but for oneself.
The idea is to avoid the self-view (Puggala Sambeda) or personality view.
Once you don't identify outside persons there is no person within either.
In other words, it appears to me that means you have to be aware of your angry mind.
It is inward-looking so this will automatically spread to the outside person without any effort.
This appears to be similar to Satipathana.
According to venerable Pemasiri, Metta can develop all the way to attain the seven factors of enlightenment.

Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
Very clear explanation of these two terms.Sakkayaditthi and Asmimana
Sakkaya means the five aggregate (as opposed to others translate this as "this body"
Sotapanna still has the thought of the Sakkaya but no views.
Arahants do not have the Mana (conceited) but they still have the thought of I (Asmi)
These two terms are based on views, craving, and conceit
Views are eliminated by Sotapanna, craving is eliminated by the Anagami, and conceit is eliminated by the Arahants.
This summary may not be completed so please listen to the video if you are interested.

Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
What is the difference between going to a movie and a temple?
Sotapanna will be reborn more than seven times.
Seven lives refer to the one birth in the human world and the six in the Deva worlds.
He can be reborn in many Brahama worlds.

Re: Ven. Gampaha Pemasiri Loku Hamuduruwo
Why it is called Samapatti (proficiency)?
- Duration is longer (normal Jhana lasts for a few minutes and Samapatti last from half an hour to seven days)
- You can attain the particular level he wishes.
- He can determine the duration of the Jhana
- The problem with Samapatti is that you can't move to the next level faster due to attachment (say from first Jhana to Second Jhana)
- So the first Jhana Samapatti to be rejected. (temporary with a shorter duration say five minutes the max)

Interesting talk about his experience of faith by ven Pemasiri.
He first learns meditation from a school teacher.
His village temple monk used to print counterfeit money, used illicit drugs, and own guns.
He also talks about his mother being a Christian and how he started practicing Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam.
