Nobody suggested it was, but there are those pesky philosophers who think that everyone does, can, and should have a philosophy of their endeavor, that is, a meta perspective of what they do.
This is also the point of contention, as some people are averse to explicating their meta perspective.
Western Buddhism is the perfect ideological supplement to rabid consumerist capitalism.

What would remain of science without its philosophy considering that epistemology is a branch of philosophy, not science?
And the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: "Behold now, bhikkhus, I exhort you: All compounded things are subject to vanish. Strive with earnestness!"

This was the last word of the Tathagata.

In all honesty the vast majority of scientists, like most people, don't think about epistemology in their day-to-day, if at all. They follow a method to get results. If those results are really true knowledge or not hardly comes into it. For some scientists the results give certain and true knowledge. For others they support the best hypothesis or theory available. Sometimes it's either or, depending on what's being done. When you get into that debate that is where Philosophy begins.
“Knowing that this body is just like foam,
understanding it has the nature of a mirage,
cutting off Māra’s flower-tipped arrows,
one should go beyond the King of Death’s sight.”
