Nice little point there - thank you. :anjali:

I suspect that people think it has to be one or the other because the Western mind often equates confidence with self-boosterism and striving. The sense I get is that in the suttas it is more about composure and assurance; a type of poise. One is confident because one has clarity.

Relaxation or tranquility (passaddhi, Skt. prashrabdhi) of both body and mind

passaddhi: [pa + √sambh + ti] ●
and pasāda [pa + √sad + *e + a] ●

are completely different AFAIK

root. √sad・1 a (sink, sit, settle) 253
root. √sambh・4 unā (reach, attain) 7
root. √sambh・1 a (be calm, confident) 28


I've seen both get translated as 'tranquility' or 'calm', so this is an issue I'm not sure about.
