New Uposatha Hall Of Wat Pah Nanachat

Post by Lucas Oliveira »

New Uposatha Hall Of Wat Pah Nanachat

The new Uposatha Hall of Wat Pah Nanachat is getting ready for the inauguration ceremonies from December 25th to 27th. The Sangha and all the laypeople of Wat Pah Nanachat feel fortunate to be able to determine a proper sima and perform ordinations and other sangha transactions in this classic setting.

We are also overjoyed to host a piece of traditional Northeastern-Thai/Laotion architecture on our monastery grounds. Here are some photos of the building about to be completed.

I love how every single hall at Nanachat has no mosquito protection. They have at least 4 halls, all open to hordes of bugs. I was told it is good for the monks to develop equanimity to bites.
During one talk I remember a bhikkhu counting how many mosquitoes were on his arms, and he counted at least 70 drinking blood on his right arm alone.

But it sure it a beautiful uposatha hall!

I thought the old one was plenty good enough.
Shakespeare wrote:The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
A sīma, once determined by a Saṅgha, remains a legally valid place for ordinations or the Uposatha ceremony until the end of time, or until it is removed by a Saṅghakamma. All you really need is a few stones to mark the boundary.

What about approve, mudita, with those made sacrifices toward the Gems? A Sadhu. And mudita with those gained supports.

(Sure, if monks rejoice with Dukkha, sacrifices, gains, such wouldn't be for their long term happiness: so trusting that they see the past, present and future burden in and around it well: corpse)
Just another short uninvited visit. Infos and a given sphere.

I don't see why not, if it doesn't kill the insects. In that last picture, the smoke from the fire under the kettle would provide some protection.

The posts supporting the kutis (huts) are set in tubs of oil, and there is often rags soaked in oil wrapped around the posts, this is to keep ants out. I don't think snakes generally climb posts so its not so much for snakes.

Mosquito repellant is not allowable at WPN, from memory.
Pronouns (no self / not self)
“Peace is within oneself to be found in the same place as agitation and suffering. It is not found in a forest or on a hilltop, nor is it given by a teacher. Where you experience suffering, you can also find freedom from suffering. Trying to run away from suffering is actually to run toward it.”

It's news like this that reminds me how great Vegas is in these matters. It's too hot and dry for mosquitos, ticks, fleas and many other bugs. They literally don't even exist here. If someone brings them from California (on their body or clothes), they perish from the low humidity within a few days.
