I would say that the self-view is eliminated when you become a Sotapanna and the ego is eliminated when you become an Arahant.
Generally, the run-off-the-mill lay people have the view that there is a permanent unchanging self abiding within.
When you become an Arahant you eliminate this view and accept the dependent origination of our existence.

It might be ego creates self view. Or causes it.
A sense of self which then goes on to create a view. A self view of me and mine.

Just as a bird, wherever it goes, flies with its wings as its only burden; so too is he content with a set of robes to provide for his body and almsfood to provide for his hunger. Wherever he goes, he takes only his barest necessities along. This is how a monk is content.(DN11)

Two different English terms. One comes from Sigmund Freud, the other from translating Pāli, Chinese, Tibetan, and Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit.
What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.
