Water system for a new monastery

Post by bhante dhamma »

Greetings fellow Dhammacaris, felicitations in Dhamma to you all!

Just had a mundane question about the possibility of anyone being able to share ideas/experiences with making water systems. It's for a new monastery, the property is currently a out 1.5 acres and already has a well, it's actually on adjacent land, but the owner is Buddhist and so is happy for us to use it the only problem is the electricity is not 24/7 so at the moment am using drums to store water, before we can start building kutis etc was thinking to make some kind of water storage system, would be grateful for any ideas? Mudita Citta for your time in advance.

What's the location?
How much rainfall per year?
Does the monastery have the $$ to buy solar panels and a solar water pump?

Dry season for some month, good householder (probably Indonesia). If there is a well, there is no problem with water for building, even just 10 min. a day electric. Sure a storage is useful, but common no problem to gain large plastic tanks, butting them on elevated place.

As only water - hysteria grows present when the annual reality of try season appears, and people another time not invested in advice in building simply tanks, cheap fuel generated pumps do usually the job.
If pumping up greater amount of water over larger elevation difference there is strong energy needed and solar systems for such are usually not really a solution (as surely broken within 2 years and expensive to run a 1, 2kw pump requiring maybe 3-4kw start power)

Using higher technics is surely fine in areas where people are used to, but merely quick wasted as usually nobody takes care on maintaining.

For generally use, good to have first of all larger tanks from concrete, which are filled by rain via the very first roof build. A string and carry one by one does it as well and the reallity of Dukkha is well reflected by all, foremost by whom wishing for ease, seeing what it's causing by request.

Usually Bhante replies with "Do you like to make a donation" if thinking to ask about details, and if already nearly sending an trans-national team of specialists he may not replay any more... or tells about distinguishing problems instead.

In cases merely flat land and ground water level not so far (5-10m), most efficient and harmless, when some "skilled" mechanics are near with some creativity, would be such (but when not maintained, also soon noisy and brocken)

A mechanic struction used like a stepper does good for "walk meditation.

Putting it higher one can fill a tank of 1m3 in 20 min "fitness". Material ~20$, deep this groundwater till about 7m possible.

A motor pump, right next in the village ~100$ enought to flood 1,5ha rice field...

My person thinks that there will be no further on it... (it's really not proper such)
