The mind we carry at the time of taking actions is what matters. Killing is a part of living.
Agree if Nibanna or jhana is ones goal, avoid killing as it’s unsuitable activity for samma samadhi, as is chess.
If you want jhana or Nibanna, then give up playing chess for the duration.
What is the root cause of killing -attachment, aversion, or ignorance?

money is worthless toilet paper • the tongue has no bone (a person might say one thing but it cannot be further from the truth) • you cannot teach a goat math as in you cannot teach the dhamma to a dumb person
Re: What is the root cause of killing -attachment, aversion, or ignorance?
Yes, I found this answer elsewhere too.
Attachment: Say you kill someone to protect your homeland. People kill their pets as they are suffering from an illness
Aversion: You kill someone due to jealousy or anger
Ignorance: Not believing Kamma Vipaka people kill too. For instance, the executioner or a hitman kills due to ignorance.
However, I feel that anger directly or indirectly is the root cause of all killing.
“As the lamp consumes oil, the path realises Nibbana”

Killing is not suitable for jhana cultivation either.wenjaforever wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 7:48 pmNo I'm not interested in nibanathepea wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 8:46 pm

We already know that. What's your point?
